Nothing Gets the Party Started Like Dinner at Shipwreck Grill in Brielle, New Jersey

Every summer, Rex and I have an annual tradition of heading out to Martell’s Tiki Bar in Point Pleasant Beach to see our all-time favorite bar band, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes. Sometimes we bring friends — one year we brought Aunt Veg and Uncle Quiet — but this year it was just the two of us.

As my loyal Roxiticus Desperate Housewives readers know, Rex and I live together, work together, play together and are happy to be together 24/7, so we don’t spend a lot of time trying to get away from our kids. While we’ve taken London and Maddie to all of the best restaurants at the Jersey Shore and back up north in Mendham, Chester, Bernardsville, and the rest of the Roxiticus Valley, we had decided to have a rare night out as a couple. We had reservations for 7 o’clock, but I forgot my jacket and knew I’d need it when the wind started whippin’ down the boardwalk at Martell’s, so we didn’t arrive until 7:16pm. The Good Witch (I mean hostess) let us know that the Bad Witch (I mean hostess, but I’m starting to use that term loosely) had crossed out our name and given away our table just a minute before, as Shipwreck Grill has a policy of holding reservations for only 15 minutes, but there was a lovely table for two right next to the kitchen, where the wait staff would hit one of us every time one of them came out with a steaming entree. Luckily, we cozied up to the bar to find Ryan our Bartender, who came highly recommended by Deb of JerseyBites,¬†and decided to eat our dinner right there.

We’ve probably had dinner at Shipwreck Grill ten or more times, and the very first time, Rex chose a Ferrari Carrano Reserve Chardonnay and we’ve ordered a bottle every time since. I had steamers as my appetizer, and tuna sushi tempura with Japanese dipping sauces (it’s a MUST!) as my entree. Rex chose six different raw oysters (I only like mine cooked) as an appetizer and also had an order of the tuna sushi tempura as his entree (way too good to share).

Back to the Beach! Saturday Dinner at Shipwreck Grill — Brielle, NJ

Rex and the girls and I are opening up the beach house tomorrow and we’re having dinner at The Shipwreck Grill in Brielle on Saturday night!

Maybe when we get back from the beach on Sunday night (you can thank Comcastic for my lack of Internet down in Bay Head) I’ll write my own review, but for now you’ll have to settle for Deb’s over on Jersey Bites:
